MPA Network

As well as forming part of the Natura 2000 network of European marine sites, the Humber Estuary has an important role to play in the UK's Marine Protected Area network. The UK has committed to establish an ecologically coherent network of well-managed MPAs under agreements such as OSPAR http://www.ospar.org/, the World Summitt on Sustainable Development and the COnvention on Biological Diversity.

This network will be made up of exisitng European marine sites, SSSIs plus new national MPAs being delivered under the various Marine Bills. In English, Welsh territorial and adjacent offshore waters these will be called Marine Conservation Zones.
